The Government will provide $12.5 million over three years to redevelop the eastern precinct of the Australian War Memorial to improve school and visitor access, safety and parking. The east precinct redevelopment includes the building of a 200 space underground car park with a tunnel link to the Memorial, bus parking and a commemorative courtyard.
This project will complete the site redevelopment, complementing other major construction work at the Australian War Memorial. Over the last ten years the Government has provided the Australian War Memorial with over $25 million for site redevelopment, including the building of Anzac Hall and the CEW Bean Building as well as redevelopment of major exhibitions such as World War II, the Aircraft Hall, the Research Centre and, currently, the post-1945 galleries.
